Juneteenth Celebration 2019

The Parker County/Weatherford, TX NAACP Branch 6321 will be holding its 4th Annual Juneteenth Celebration on June 15th, 2019. this year's event will be co-hosted by the Weatherford Public Library and will be held on the library grounds at 1014 Charles Street.

On June 19, 1865, Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas and read a proclamation that the Civil War had ended and that slaves were now free. It is celebrated especially in former slave states, and is officially recognized as a holiday in 45 states.

The Juneteenth Celebration will take place from 10am to 4pm. The celebration includes lunch, games (dominoes, spades) and performers scheduled throughout this day.

Schedule of Free Entertainment:

10:15 a.m. - DeCee Cornish, Storyteller

11:00 a.m. - Scholarship Presentation

11:15 a.m. - Bahdae African Dance and Drum

12:00 p.m. - Lunch

1:00 pm - Egg Toss Contest

1:30 pm Shake Anderson

All acts are family-friendly. Admission is free, and a free lunch will be served. In addition to the free lunch, food trucks will be on site with food for purchase for attendees who want something different. Documentary videos about the holiday will run in the library auditorium all day.
