June 16, 2018, 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM @ Weatherford Public Library
The Parker County/Weatherford, TX NAACP Branch 6321 will be holding its 3rd Annual Juneteenth Celebration on June 16, 2018. This year’s event will be co-hosted by the Weatherford Public Library, and will be held on the library grounds at 1014 Charles Street. On June 19, 1865, Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas and read a proclamation that the Civil War had ended and that slaves were now free. It is celebrated especially in former slave states, and is officially recognized as a holiday in 45 states.
The Juneteenth Celebration will take place from 10am to 4pm. The celebration includes lunch, games (dominoes, spades) and performers scheduled throughout this day.
All acts are family-friendly. Admission is free, and a free lunch will be served. In addition to the free lunch, food trucks will be on site with food for purchase for attendees who want something different. Documentary videos about the holiday will run in the library auditorium all day.
