Do I have to have a permit to solicit inside the city?: Yes. There are three different types of permits for persons requesting to solicit inside the city. A peddler permit, an itinerant vendor permit and a religious solicitor permit. Peddlers and itinerant vendors are charged a fee for this service while religious solicitors are not; however, religious solicitors must meet the charitable organizations guidelines set up by the state. Anyone who has a warrant or a criminal history for fraud and/or theft will not be given a permit. It is a crime to solicit within the city without the approved permit. 1. What are the operating hours for various sections of the Police Department?: Dispatch and Patrol are open 24 hours per day. Administration, Records, and Property/Evidence are open 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday to Friday, excluding all city holidays.

2. How do I get a copy of a police accident report?: You can now obtain copies of accident reports online. The process is simple and easy to follow. This service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. This excludes periodic routine maintenance down time. The report must match the minimum information for the option selected on the Crash Report Search screen. There are four options for searching: Name, Driver License/Identification Card Number, Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), TxDOT Crash ID. There is a fee for purchasing a crash report online. The cost for an Uncertified electronic copy is $6.00. The cost of a Certified electronic copy is $8.00. The cost of a Letter of "No Records" is free. Purchases must be made using a credit/debit card or electronic check (ACH). Accepted credit/debit cards include VISA, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover. 3. How can I obtain a copy of a police report?: You can obtain a public copy of an offense report in person between 8:00a.m. and 5:00p.m., Monday through Friday at Weatherford Police Department 614 Fort Worth Hwy, Weatherford, Texas. We do not fax, email, or mail reports. Please keep in mind that limited information is considered “public.” Due to legal restrictions, certain information will be omitted from public copies of offense reports.

4. How do I file for a report under the Open Records Act?: Your request must be in writing. Only written requests trigger a governmental body’s obligations under the Public Information Act. Your request should be for documents or other information that is already in existence. Governmental bodies are not required to answer questions, perform legal research, or comply with a continuing request to supply information on a periodic basis as such information is prepared in the future.

5. My vehicle has been impounded by Weatherford Police. How can I get it back?

Providing that your vehicle is not being held as evidence, you will need to bring one or more of the following documentation papers to the WPD Communications Department to obtain a release form:

Please contact the appropriate wrecker service regarding storage/impound fees. If there has been a hold placed on your vehicle you will need to contact the officer or detective that placed the hold in order to get it released.

6. Can I get someone to speak to various groups about community issues?: Yes. Contact the Police Department at 682-229-2612 at least two weeks in advance of your event. We will need to know approximately how many people will be at the event, their age range, when and where it will be held, what topics you would like for us to discuss and how long you would like our presentation to last.

7. Can I ride with a police officer?: Yes. People of any age can ride out with an officer, as long as their criminal history is clear and they, or their guardian, has completed a waiver of liability form.

8. I am leaving town for several days. Can I request extra patrol?: Yes. Vacation Home Watch is a free service offered by Weatherford Police and can give you, our citizens, peace of mind while you are away from home. Program Details

9. I have a complaint against a Weatherford Police Department employee. What do I do?: The Weatherford Police Department is committed to maintaining a professional police force and department. We have both officers and civilian employees working for the department. If anyone has a complaint regarding an officer’s or civilian employee’s actions, he/she is encouraged to speak with a department representative about the incident. Everyone should know that they have the right to make a complaint and that no retaliation will come as a result of that complaint. The department will diligently investigate the complaint and implement corrective measures if they are warranted.

10. I would like to commend a Weatherford Police Department employee. What do I do?: The Weatherford Police Department is committed to rewarding employees for commendable actions and service. 11. How do I find out if someone is in jail?: You can go online to parkercountytx.com or call 682-229-2347.

12. I need to be fingerprinted for a job application or professional license, will the police department do this?: Fingerprint services are available to the public by appointment only at the Weatherford Police Department, located at 614 Fort Worth Hwy.. Appointments for fingerprints may be made by emailing kbumpas@weatherfordtx.gov or contacting Detective Kayla Bumpas at 817-598-4419.

13. I received a ticket from a City of Weatherford Officer. What do I do now?: You have fifteen calendar days from the date of the citation to contact the Weatherford Municipal Court. The Municipal Court is located inside the Weatherford City Hall at 303 Palo Pinto. Their phone number is 817-598-4120 and they are open Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Municipal Court

14. Does the police department give escorts or civil standbys in certain situations?: Generally, we do not provide police escorts; however, if public safety is at risk or you believe that a police escort or civil standby is needed please call dispatch with the information and they will be glad to help.

15. How do I find out which detective is handling my case?: Call the Weatherford Police Department general information line at 817-598-4310 and give them your information and they will determine who is working your case.

16. How do I get a protective order?: If you think you need a protective order contact the Parker County Attorney’s Office Assault/Family Violence Unit at 101 North Main St., Weatherford, TX 76086 Phone 817-594-8409.

17. Can I make a police report over the phone or does a police officer have to come to my house?: The Weatherford Police Department will take a report in person or by phone. We understand the needs of today’s citizens and understand that you might not have the time to wait for an officer to make the scene. There are certain offenses where officers will have to meet with you face to face.

18. What do I need to do to keep someone off my property?: Officers can give “criminal trespass warnings” to subjects that you do not want on your property. If a violation happens after these warnings are given, the offender may go to jail.

19. Are BB-guns and air rifles legal inside the city?: Current ordinance prohibits the firing of any BB-gun, air rifle or firearm within the city limits. It also prohibits the use of a slingshot in a public place.

20. Can I get a criminal history or background check ran on someone?: Please be advised that the City of Weatherford may not conduct criminal history checks for a non-criminal justice purpose. You can check with the Crime Records Division of the Texas Department of Public Safety and access these records for a fee. There are also private sites available on the internet.

21. Does the City of Weatherford require alarm permits?: At this time the City of Weatherford does not require alarm permits. An ordinance is being worked on to change this in the near future.

23. How do I report suspicious neighbors or drug activity?: You can either telephone police dispatch at 817-598-4300, or you can go online to the city webpage and click on the “citizen service request” icon on the left side of the page. Please give detailed information about the activities, the persons involved, vehicle descriptions (tag numbers, make and model of car), hours when activity occurs, etc., will assist investigators. Results may not be seen immediately. Cases involving conspiracy or high level drug trafficking can be complicated and time consuming.

24. How can I report a traffic related problem in my neighborhood?: You can report traffic related problems in your neighborhood by calling the police non-emergency number at 817-598-4310. Please provide information to the Call Taker about the location and nature of the problem, when it occurs, and whether or not you would like to have an officer call you back. The problem will be forwarded to the appropriate unit for response and action.

25. Do I have to call the police if my vehicle is the only one involved in an accident?: If your vehicle cannot be safely driven away, there is an injury or there is damage to any other person’s property, then YES you have to call the police to work the accident.

26. What can I do about identity theft?: Contact your local police department as soon as possible to generate a police report. Even if the Identity Theft has taken place in another city or state, you will need to show proof you have made contact with a police agency.
