3. Why does the City of Weatherford no longer have Recycling Drop-off Centers?

The Recycling drop-off centers closed due to the increase of hauling costs and trash contamination in the landfill. The fee to haul a recycling container to the recycling facility in Ft Worth is $ 270.00 each. This cost was estimated to exceed $180,000 in 2010.

4. Why is Weatherford offering a curb side recycling program?

The voluntary curbside recycling program will enable city residents to conveniently recycle and reduce the volume of waste from entering the landfill.

5. What are the seven types of plastics for recycling?

#1 PETE: Polyethylene Terephthalate
Commonly used in soft drinks, juice, cough syrup containers and microwave trays.

#2 HDPE: High Density Polyethylene
Commonly used in milk jugs, detergent and shampoo bottles.

#3 V: Polyvinyl Chloride
Commonly used in film for meat packaging and some rigid plastic containers

#4 LDPE: Low Density Polyethylene
Commonly used in newspaper and grocery bags and butter cups lids.

#5 PP: Polypropylene
Commonly used in yogurt containers and deli trays

#6 PS: Polystyrene
Commonly used in plastic cups and plates and to-go containers

6. How many rolls of trash bags/can liners can I purchase and for how much?

Each city utility account holder with the city may purchase rolls of trash bags each year. They are $6 per roll for a 50 count. You have to provide account verification to purchase rolls. Only the person(s) listed on the account may purchase the rolls of trash bags without explicit written permission emailed to Utility Billing ahead of time.

7. How do I get my electronics picked up for the Electronics Recycling program?

To have your electronics picked up our current process is to call either Utility Billing (817.598.4225) or the Solid Waste and Recycling Department (817.598.4154) and then they will be picked up at your curb.This serivce is provided to Weatherford residents with current Utility Billing accounts with us.

8. Why was my garbage not picked up?

In most cases, garbage was not picked up because it was put out after the crew picked up on your street. Please notify the Sanitation Division and they will make an attempt to go back and pick it up. Please ensure that your regular garbage collection is out by 7 a.m. on your service day. For bulk/brush collection have your piles out by 7 a.m. on the Monday of your scheduled week for collection.
