The Weatherford Police Department is committed to protecting our community and ensuring we have proactive tools in place to respond quickly during emergencies. The Return Home Safe Program is one of those tools, designed to help officers locate missing or lost individuals as safely and efficiently as possible.

What is the Return Home Safe Program?

The Return Home Safe Program is a voluntary information storage program that allows the Weatherford Police Department and assisting agencies to quickly access identifying information for individuals who may become lost or missing.

How does the program work?

If a participating individual becomes lost or goes missing, a family member or caregiver can contact dispatch and provide the participant’s name as listed on their program form. Dispatch can immediately access the stored information, including a recent photograph, and share it with responding officers, assisting agencies, and nearby jurisdictions when needed.

This quick access allows officers to begin a focused search without delay.

Why is this program important?

When someone is missing, time matters. Having critical information readily available helps officers act quickly and accurately. Details such as physical description, medical considerations, interests, commonly visited locations, vehicle information, and a current photograph significantly increase the likelihood of a safe and timely recovery.

Who is eligible to participate?

The Return Home Safe Program is available to any resident living within the Weatherford city limits. While open to all, the program was specifically designed to support senior citizens and individuals with special needs who may have difficulty communicating that they need help.

In most cases, participants are age 65 or older and or have a cognitive disorder or disability.
